Tanveer I. Kathawalla is the Managing Partner of Pioneer1890, a Virginia-based investment platform focused on acquiring and scaling companies in critical industries. He has spent fifteen years at the intersection of capital and industrial systems, beginning as a venture investor backing deep tech companies. He later became the founding CFO of a defense technology company, where he led the launch of the world’s first commercial optical communications satellite, and went on to lead global M&A at PE-backed defense companies.
He founded Pioneer1890 to address structural mismatches in capital and ownership in critical industries. His work focuses on scaling technology-driven companies across defense, healthcare, and infrastructure. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Breaking Defense, and other national outlets. He holds an MBA from UVA Darden and a BA from George Washington University.
